4 Years

We celebrated our anniversaries last Friday night with dinner out followed by drinks at home while watching The Office. 

Best Seats in the House

My cousins so kindly invited us to join them to watch last weekend's Husker game in a skybox...on the 50 yard line!  It was awesome!  We had the AC on and the windows open, so we were able to feel like we were part of the crowd, but stay nice and cool.  They had food and drinks for us and there was even a TV in the bathroom, so you didn't have to miss a minute of the game.  :)  We had a great time watching the game and hanging out with the fam. 

Also, we determined that this has to be the most expensive "date" that we've ever enjoyed - although we didn't have to pay a penny of it.  So, THANKS Bensons and Martins!  :)

2 Years!

Happy anniversary to the love of my life.

Date Night - March

On the very last day of March, we managed to fit in our monthly date night.  Judging by the sign on our table, it looks like they were expecting us. 

While Aunt Michelle, Uncle Justin and their girls, so very kindly, watched Samuel, we ran a couple errands (including a trip to the new Natural Grocers (yay!)) and then had an appetizer and drinks at Granite City.

In the six weeks since Sam came to town, I have had a few beers and a couple glasses of wine, but our March date night provided a good excuse for my first (and second) vodka/tonic in almost a year.  And, oh boy, were they yummy!

Our date "night" was actually more of a date "late afternoon," so after our Granite City time, we headed back to Justin and Michelle's.  We were treated with Justin's famous tacos, a rousing game of cops and robbers/house in the backyard with Jenna and Addison, a game of "Sorry" that involved our game pieces trick or treating around the board and lots of general silliness and fun. 

Thanks so much, Schilowsky's and Granite City.  We had a great afternoon and evening!

Our Favorite Places

Both Mama and Daddy managed to take Sam to their respective favorite locations during his first month of life - - the library and Whole Foods. 

In fact, he has now made it to the library two weeks in a row.  In the pre-baby days, Sam's Mama went to the library at least weekly and she doesn't see any reason to stop now. 

In other exciting news, a Whole Foods store is scheduled to open in Lincoln in the not too distant future and (unlike Trader Joes) it will not be located at a prohibitive distance from our house.  Yay!  ...and watch out, Petermann checking account.  :)

Date Nights

We decided that we needed to implement monthly date nights.  For our January date, we divided the fun into two nights.  We had some yummy Red Robin on a Friday night and went to a movie the next night.  It was probably a good idea, since I seem to have trouble staying awake much past 9pm.  Both nights were lots of fun. 

Taking a photo of ourselves proved to be difficult.  This was the best one we got.  :)

The girls had their Christmas programs at church on Sunday night.  They did a great job and both programs were very entertaining.

Our dating/engagement anniversary dinner wasn't quite as fancy as last year's.  It was really nice to just stay home for a night, though, and we lucked out with a beautiful night to eat on the deck.  I added a little candle for ambiance and Mabel really added to that by barking through our entire meal, as she hoped that we would share our grub.

My dad is outstanding in his field and I guess Brian and I are just out standing in dad's field. 

Little Wooden Trees

Brian came to bed about an hour after I did, last night.  I think I half woke-up to tell him good night.

About 5 minutes later, I thought it was morning and that we needed to wake up.  It was about 10:30pm - so....not time to wake up.

My dresser is right beside my side of the bed and I always keep my phone (which serves as my alarm clock) and my glasses on the edge of it, so I can reach up to see what time it is, etc.

When I thought it was time to wake up, I reached up there and felt all around for my little wooden tree.  For some reason, I thought that Brian and I each had a little wooden tree on our respective sides of the bed and that you somehow used them to help wake up.

The ones in my head were about a foot tall.  

So, I was reaching around and half sitting up and feeling all over the edge of the dresser, but just couldn't find my little wooden tree.  Brian, unsurprisingly, asked me what I was doing.  I told him that I couldn't find my little wooden tree and I needed help. 

He had no idea what was going on and said something to that effect.  I started to get really mad at him for not understanding and also for not helping me.  

 

Finally, I convinced him to turn on the bedside light that is on his side of the bed.  He turned it on and again asked what was going on.  I told him I needed help finding my little wooden tree.  He told me we didn't have a little wooden tree and that pissed me off because I knew we didn't have a wooden tree...I was pretty sure that we had two - one for each of us.  I think I gave him the look of death.  

 

He asked why we had these trees and I said "To help us wake up!"  Duh.  

Somehow, he convinced me to look at his bedside table and see that there was no wooden tree.  I looked.  No wooden trees were anywhere to be seen.  

And the reality of us not owning any little wooden trees somehow woke me up.  

All of a sudden I was (mostly) awake and realized that I had just been talking and thinking nonsense.  I busted out laughing and then had a really hard time falling back to sleep because I couldn't quit laughing.  

 

It didn't help that Brian kept asking me why I thought little wooden trees would help us wake up and I had no idea.  I would bust our laughing every time he asked.

 

If you think that I need to go to the loony bin, I concur.  It was weird.  I don't think that I've ever had an experience like that before.

It's my favorite time of year!  Something about the big crowd of people all happy to be enjoying the warm summer weather just makes me want to smile and be a part of the fun.

This Morning's View

We had another sleepover with Mabel last night. We put the air mattress out on the deck and enjoyed the beautiful summer night. She is a good little snuggler and cracks us up as she burrows under the covers to sleep.
